DAVID THAXTON teaches K-6 music at Diedrichsen Elementary in Sparks, Nevada and completed Levels I-III certification with Judith Cole and Elizabeth Gilpatrick. He has presented workshops at local, state and national levels, served as Sierra Nevada Chapter President, on The Echo editorial board, and currently serves on the editorial board of Reverberations.

Come and experience movement activities designed to engage students physically, musically, mentally and socially! Participants will come away with a repertoire of creative movement activities, traditional dances and games, and classroom management ideas and a sequence for success. Musically, participants will be able to help students experience beat, rhythm, meter, form, sequencing and the simple joy of moving to a variety of musical styles and cultures. Connections to other curriculum areas such as history, social studies and math are also common benefits to learning traditional dances.
JAN BAKER is a Music and Movement educator with 30 years of experience in Texas public schools. An active member and past officer of the North Texas Orff chapter and the American Orff Schulwerk Association, Jan has taught movement including everything from pre-ballet to high school flag corps to Jazzercize to her recent love of traditional dances from all over the world. She has presented professional development sessions of traditional dances for the American Orff Schulwerk Association, Texas Music Educators Association, North Texas Chapter of AOSA, Tennessee Arts Academy, Kodaly Educators of Texas, Texas A&M University-Commerce and various Texas school districts. Jan has served her local chapter of AOSA in various positions and served as a Region Representative in both Texas Music Educators Association and the American Orff Schulwerk Association.

March 4, 2017 Kelly Takunda Orphan: Feel it in your Body, Feel it in your Hands, Feel it in your Feet
As Orff Schulwerk educators, working with rhythm is essential. Rhythm is the foundation of all our play. Kelly has worked with children and adults for over two decades, preaching the "gospel of rhythm." Kelly Takunda Orphan will lead in various songs, games, body music and rhythms from Zimbabwe to the USA to Mexico and beyond.
Kelly Takunda Orphan loves to sing, drum and dance! As a vocalist, percussionist, songwriter and dancer, Kelly has both taught and performed music around the world. She was raised in a family of mixed-heritage musicians in the Bay Area, sang in her church choir, studied piano, voice and percussion and toured with Babatunde Olatunji before moving to Africa and discovering her deep-rooted passion for music and dance in Zimbabwe. Kelly took a year-long course in Ethnomusicology at the University of Zimbabwe in 1994.
Kelly also holds a BA from San Jose State University in Creative Arts with an emphasis on world music and also has a minor in music. She completed the Orff Schulwerk certification program in 2001 at Mills College in Oakland, CA. She has taught music to children and adults for over 20 years, and has taught at various organizations such as NCAOSA (Northern California American Orff Schulwerk), Oakland Youth Chorus, Go Girls!, Born To Drum and more.
Since 1995, Kelly has worked as a music specialist in Richmond, San Jose, San Francisco and Oakland public and private schools. In 1997, Kelly began to build a music program at Park Day School where she is currently teaches music to K-5 students, directs two choirs and leads a percussion ensemble. For the past decade, Kelly has been leading her own 10-peice world music ensemble, The KTO Project and she performs in various Bay Area music and dance groups. She is currently in collaboration with Evie Ladin and her project, Motor, which is a unique all female ensemble of artists who sing, play body music and dance.
