Financial Resources The Orff Schulwerk Level I course at the University of Nevada, Reno is quite competitively priced, and compared to many other courses in the region and across the country, a fantastic value. However, there are also grant and scholarship opportunities that may be of assistance to you if you qualify. Donors Choose This popular organization is well known for funding projects and supplies for classroom use. Within the past year, they have begun offering opportunities to get donations for Professional Development. There is no deadline, but you are encouraged to apply early in order to have your best chances at receiving funding in time. donorschoose.org AOSA Grants and Scholarships The American Orff Schulwerk Association has a number of grants and scholarships available to anyone who has been a member of AOSA for one year or more. The TAP fund is available to teachers of low-income students. (Award amount varies) The Gunild Keetman Assistance Fund as well as thre Shields-Gillespie Scholarship are available for members seeking professional development that can demonstrate a personal financial need. For all scholarships, the deadline to apply is January 15th, 2017 aosa.org Nevada Arts Council Professional Development Grant This Award is up to $650 to cover registration costs, travel and living expenses. It is available to all Nevada teachers, However, you must live at least 50 miles from the course to qualify. While that sadly rules out those in the Reno / Sparks / Carson area, if you live in an outlying area like Fallon, Lovelock, Winnemucca or Yerington and beyond, this grant is a fantastic resource. No deadline – rolling application. nevadaculture.org NEA Learning and Leadership Grants This competitive grant is available to all National Education Association members, and provides up to $2000 for individuals to attend high quality professional development (Such as Orff Schulwerk Level I). Deadline: February 1st, 2017 neafoundation.org ACEMM- The American Center for Elemental Music Making Beacon Scholarship This competitive grant provides up to $1500 for applicants to study elemental music and movement. (Such as Level I). As this is a very new program, there are not many scholarships awarded - about one or two per year at this time. Deadline: May 1st, Notification: May 31st acemm.us Fund for Teachers This organization funds professional development for teachers with awards of up to $5000 for individuals. Deadline: January 31st, 2017 fundforteachers.org Other resources: Often people find alternative means of funding either through their school site. (Print off the “Why Take Level I training” portion of this page, bring it to your administrator, put on a happy face and have a talk with them!) Churches and Civic organizations you belong to may also have resources to share, as well as sites like: gofundme.com or fundanything.com You might also consider starting your own scholarship fund. Contribute $10, $20, $60, $100 per month to a savings account and name it something like: “Yeah, This is for Me to Learn Something Great this Summer Scholarship.” Put in another $5 per month and call it: “That’s Right.
